I think the animated, cartoon version of Steve Johnson's speech is more effective. It keeps the viewer engaged while still providing information. Visual learners have a better time learning through this style of teaching. It makes what Johnson is saying fun and exciting to not only hear, but to see as well.
The TED Talk version of Steve Johnson's speech is very effective. For me, I tend to doze off and not pay as much attention since it's him talking the whole time. He does provide visual aids, but not enough to keep viewers engaged. He does a great job thoroughly explaining his ideas and concepts to his audience by telling stories and personal opinions.
